Superman Returns: Fortress of Solitude for Gameboy Advance is an example of an enjoyable Superman game, albeit a weird concept. The plot of the game involves the recording of Superman's history on Earth by...solving puzzles. Yes, it's a Superman themed puzzle game based on the Kryptonian supercomputer in the Fortress of Solitude based on the first two Christopher Reeve Superman movies as well as from Superman Returns, the movie license slapped on the game. There are two types: Sudoku & Crystallization. Sudoku is just regular sudoku where you organize crystals on a grid in corresponding rows, columns, & squares, not repeating each crystal in an order. Crystallization is much more advanced: you must place crystals of different colors & shapes next to crystals of different colors & shapes in order to light up the grid. As you complete these puzzles, you unlock what I called earlier "recording of Superman's history on Earth" through shots from the movie. Each set of puzzles is set in chapters, & they get more difficult from each chapter, such as Sudoku going as far as 81 squares (it may go further, but I haven't played the whole game yet), but what helps it is that you have some of Superman's powers to help you, such as X-ray vision so you can see where certain crystals go. As you are halfway done with a chapter, you go into a minigame to fight off one of Superman's greatest foes, such as Mongul, Brainiac, or Metallo. For music, there is no John Williams theme, but the music here is pretty good. In conclusion, Superman Returns: Fortress of Solitude is one of the obscure but definitely better Superman video games, & it's a fun little puzzle game for anyone to play.Read full review

To be honest, at first I questioned whether I had bought the actual Superman Returns game or some bootleg game disguised as Superman Returns. There was no instruction guide with the one I bought so I had to figure it out myself. There are a series of "puzzles" that you try to arrange before time runs out that really has nothing to do with Superman Returns. Recently, I have discovered a stage in the game that actually has Superman in flight destroying enemies along the way, so that is pretty cool. My son and I are fans of the movie, but not very big fans of the Gameboy Advance game(if indeed I do have the actual game).
I have custody of my 6 year old grandson and he absolutely loves Superman. I bought this particular game for him because he just received a new gameboy advance (also bought on ebay) and the retail prices for new games are outrageous but this was a good price for a new game. He was very pleased with this and I can honestly say there is absolutely NOTHING about it to dislike. I do most of my shopping on ebay and ebay express. You just can't beat it anywhere else for prices and selection.
My 10 year old son heard about this game from a friend and has not been disappointed at all! In his words "it's awesome"!
This game fell way below what I expected. A large part of the game involves some strange crystal matching game which has nothing to do with Superman Returns. It is to be quite honest one of the most boring games on the GBA I have ever played. overall a huge let down, I do not recommend.
